In a homage to its natural diversity, six Texas printmakers put minds, hearts and skill into depicting the creatures of the Lone Star State. From Mockingbirds to rattlesnakes, the artists give tantalizing insights into the lives and personalities of the birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and mammals that share our landscape.
Featuring the work of: Margie Crisp, linocuts; David Everett, woodcuts; Melanie Fain, handcolored etchings; Billy Hassell color lithographs & etchings; William B. Montgomery handcolored etchings & lithographs; and Rosemary Nichols Swann, handcolored lithographs.
Illustrating Nature: Natural History and the Printmaking Process
Historical prints from private collections illustrate the popular and scientific background to natural history prints. Includes engravings from Napoleon’s Expedition to Egypt, Martinet engravings, Seba etchings, chromolithographs from the German Encyclopedia Meyers Grosses Konversations-Lexikon, along with wood engravings, lithographs and etchings. A display of tools, plates and blocks illustrate different printmaking processes.
